the story of Fatima always intrigued me when i was young--still does, i guess
maybe it made it seem possible that any of us could be chosen to be visited by angels
or the divine
i was very religious as a child
my favorite grandparent, my mother's mother was a very devout catholic
i spent a lot of time at her house and she molded my beliefs
for a very long time i wanted to be a priest
but as my emerging sexuality caused confusion and doubt, that dream faded
God had other plans for me
and now, i cannot in good conscience even call myself a catholic, although i suppose the Church just considers me a 'lapsed catholic'
until the church can accept me as I am without qualification, i can never allow myself to return
